Astaxanthin: KING of the Carotenoids

William Shakespeare once said “our bodies are our gardens-our wills are our gardeners.”

It goes without saying, that if we take care of our bodies, our bodies will take care of us. You may have already heard the hype about one of the most, powerful antioxidants on the market today, Astaxanthin. This antioxidant is literally a powerhouse! It soars over many other well-known antioxidants and is a thousand times more potent than vitamin C. Due to its potency, it has been the central point of many studies and clinical trials. It covers a vast, range of health applications, including eye health and age-related vision changes.

But exactly, what is Astaxanthin?

Astaxanthin, is a member of the carotenoid family, it’s a red carotenoid pigment found in certain marine plants and animals. It’s often referred to as the“king of the carotenoids” because it’s brimming with antioxidants that promote, optimal health. And when it comes to eye health, research studies have confirmed that Astaxanthin may be instrumental in helping some common vision problems and eye disorders, such as: dry eyes, eye fatigue, computer eye strain, blurry vision, double vision, cataracts and glaucoma. It’s also, helpful for Age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy – (both, canlead to blindness.)And it goes on from there, protecting the body from damage due to the exposure of environmental toxins, irritants, stressors and may help with cancer prevention, heart health, brain health, immunities, muscle energy, recovery and performance, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, skin immunities and the list goes on and on!

Astaxanthin can cross the blood-brain barrier and enter the brain, once there it can pass through the blood-retinal barrier and enter the eyes. Once in the eyes, its super nutrient powers can work wonders like no other antioxidant can!

Vision problems are on the rise!

Many reasons contribute to this, countries worldwide are experiencing an increase in their senior citizen population. In the US alone, Americans 65 + are projected to more than double by 2060.And according to theWorld Health Organization, vision impairment affects individuals over the age of 50. Another contributing factor to vision problems today, is the blue light emitted from digital devices.
